Guasha

Modern research shows that this technique produces an anti-inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single treatment.

Guasha is a modality in which a round-edged tool such as a Chinese soup spoon (carved out buffalo horn) is used to stroke the skin surface until a reddish or purple petechiae known as “sha” appears on the surface. The sha is a sign of blood stasis or toxin build up. The invigorating technique produces immediate relief that can last for days.

Guasha is used in conjunction with acupuncture treatments to relieve muscular neck pain, headaches, joint pain, carpal tunnel, and acute respiratory conditions.
